Emerald City Comicon 2013

This was the strangest thing I saw at ECCC. Did not purchase, but had to get a pic :)

This was the strangest thing I saw at ECCC. Did not purchase, but had to get a pic

This was the first time my husband and I went to Emerald City Comicon and it was really fun. It was definitely not as crazy as PAX, but there were still a ton of people. There was also a lot less standing in line compared to PAX although we didn’t get autographs or go to any of the panels. My favorite part of ECCC was just checking out all the amazing art items for sale. So much amazing art talent all in one place! I ended up purchasing a handmade push square watermelon. My husband found one of his favorite artists too and got a signed print.
All our goodies!

All our goodies!

This was a fun new experience that I definitely want to try again. It was so awesome running into so many friends there too. I’m already looking forward to next year’s. Who knows, I might even dress up čÖé

Review: Street Fighter x Sanrio Fight Stick

28 Feb

If you were reading my blog in December you should remember that I became the proud owner of a Street Fighter x Sanrio fight stick. Well, I finally took the plunge and took it out of the box and started gaming with it. Here are my thoughts below:

  • Having a fight stick pretty much makes any game more fun! I’ve been playing through Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game and it feels like I’m at an arcade! Games┬áinstantly┬ábecome x100 more fun.
  • Having a fight stick makes fighting games easier to play (unsurprisingly). In particular for me, Street Fighter 4 has become much more playable. I don’t get those annoying hand cramps that always happen with mad button mashing on the Xbox controller.
  • Just like anything it takes practice and dedication to get good at fighting games (even with a fight stick). My goal is to get good enough at Street Fighter 4 to play co-workers without them needing to use a huge life handicap.
  • Lastly, the fight stick looks so very pretty in our gaming area. I’m proud to show it off!

Overall, the fight stick was a great investment and anyone interested in getting serious about fighting games should consider getting one.

Birchbox February 2013

21 Feb

This month’s Birchbox was another good one. I was originally hoping for some Lancome goodies, but was actually happy with all the non-Lancome items I received. Part of the fun of Birchbox is that there are a ton of combinations so the boxes are all different. You never know what you might get… What was in my box:

Ghirardelli Chocolate Square: This was fine. I would have rather had another make-up item.

Twistband in Brown: This is actually cute and useful. I will use it to pull my hair back at the gym or when I wash my face.

Vasanti Face Wash: I really love this one. I tried it last night and it does a great job of cleaning and smells nice. My face looked brighter! I also appreciate that it has ‘real’ packaging.

Nicole (by Nicole Richie) Perfume: Not really a fan of the scent. Smells too mature for me.

Color Club Mini Polish: I was actually hoping for the green vs. red color, but the red is nice. The sample size on this is perfect!

Also, I’ve been reviewing all my items on the Birchbox site earning points for future purchases. I’ve already earned $10. Looking forward to March!

Prabal Gurung for Target

10 Feb

The Prabal Gurung Collection for Target came out today and if┬áyou’ve read my blog before you should already┬áknow that┬áI love the Target┬ádesigner collections, LOVE THEM!

I wasn’t as excited about this collection compared to Missoni or Jason Wu where I wanted 90% of the collection, but there were 2 dresses that caught my eye. My husband and I planned to go into Seattle to celebrate Chinese New Year so I figured I could hit up the new City Target and maybe check out some of the pieces. No big deal if they were sold out, I wasn’t going to wake up at 8 am/ run into the store like a crazy person┬álike I did for┬áJason Wu dresses.

We arrived at City Target at around 2 pm and imagine my surprise when I see racks and racks of Prabal Gurung clothing everywhere. Wow, City Target was really stocked, none of this limited stock BS my local suburban Target does with the special styles.

The ending: I purchased one of the dresses I really liked, no hassle at all. I’ll post a picture later. I plan on wearing it to a friend’s wedding čÖé

The lesson: If a design collection for Target comes out that I’m interested in I’m skipping my local Target and going to City Target first.

Valentine’s Day Wreath!

2 Feb

Valentine's Day Wreath!

I love Valentine’s day. I love it mainly because of the cute decorations (pink and red hearts!)… and flowers… I’m all about those.

This wreath was super easy to make; 1) Chop off faux flowers from stem 2) Hot glue to wreath accordingly 3) Add ribbon 4) Hang on door

Next Holiday Wreath I want to make: Chinese New Year

Birchbox January 2013

24 Jan

ImageI received my very first Birchbox today!

Me: “My Birchbox arrived, yayyy!”

Husband: “Is there wood inside?”

For $10 a month you get a nice box of beauty samples, sometimes even full size items! It’s a fun surprise and you can cancel at any time. Here’s what was inside mine:

The best item was by far the full size Model Co. lip gloss in ‘showgirl red’. It’s very sheer and looks great. I also love the little mirror on it. I’m excited about the No 4 clarifying shampoo and the mini Caudalie┬áradiance┬ácream also seems promising. The rest of the samples are nice too, but I really prefer real packaging to the funky little flat plastic magazine sample styled items.┬á

Looking forward to my next Birchbox already!

Nintendo DS Refurbishment

19 Jan

As luck would have it I┬árecently┬áreceived┬áa free Nintendo DS Lite. It was on a FREE STUFF! table at work and I was lucky enough to pass by this before anyone else. I used to have an old style Nintendo DS (in teal) but I sold it. I had recently been thinking fondly on my many hours playing Animal Crossing on the DS so I felt on top of the world finding a DS for myself. There was just one issue….. Spiderman Stickers.

Now some of you might be looking at this thinking, awww they’re kinda cute! You would be wrong. I’m a twenty something female and I really don’t want Spiderman stickers on anything I own. Period.

So began my journey to remove these special stickers. The barbed wire and web ones were pretty easy to remove. They came off ┬áby scratching with my nails or a plastic card followed up by Goo Gone to remove the residue; however that soon changed. Once I got to Spiderman’s head I knew I was in trouble. Scratching only resulted in nothing happening or teeny tiny 1/1,000 of the total sticker pieces coming off. Ugh. Goo Gone, razor blade, countless Internet searches…nothing worked. I finally got the full Spiderman sticker off after several nights of nail scratching fun. Now I’m finally at the point of trying to get rid of Venom’s sticker head and am ready to give up.

I hate you Venom. So much.

I hate you Venom. So much.

Now my DS just looks evil or cursed (the stickers are definitely cursed). I honestly can’t decide whether to continue sticker removal or to just buy a gelaskin or such to put over it. I’m quite partial to Van Gogh’s ‘Almond Branches in Bloom’. I fought a good battle, but the stickers may have one this one. We’ll see.
