I’m Back!

28 Sep

Greetings! It’s certainly been awhile!

It looks like my last post was Jan 2 and now it’s Sept 28 so that will make a whopping 2 posts for the year. Clearly I’m very dedicated to this blogging stuff. Anyways, I’m hoping to get better at that since there have been lots of new exciting changes going on in my life right now. Here’s the quick run down.

I went to Hong Kong which was amazing. The food was so good and the shopping was even better. Lots of cool cultural sites to see as well. I miss the efficiency of their MTR already.

I got a new job in the summer! I’ve been there 4 mo. now so I’m not as new (but really everything still feels new). This job¬†feels like a new adventure and promotion all in one so I feel very happy career-wise right now.

Another fun thing, I got to see 2 new US cities: New York and Chicago. Both had amazing architecture and great food.

The summer weather has been AMAZING! I’ve felt really lucky to spend so much time in the sunshine. Even in late Sept, it’s still warm enough to wear shorts. So awesome.

Two new trips are in the works ūüôā

I’ve also been trying to exercise more, read more, and save more money. I’ll try to post book reviews soon! The exercise portion of this goal needs some serious work before a real update.

Black Cardigan What Would I Do Without You

2 Feb

Remember when I swore not to wear jeans to work? That’s over, at least until summer when I¬†switch over to dress mode. Today¬†I definitely was channeling my inner Liz Lemon.

Cardigan + Headband + Gaming Shirt + Flats + Glasses = Preppy Geek or maybe Geeky Prep?

  • Cardigan: Banana Republic
  • Shirt: American Apparel (for PopCap)
  • Jeans: Delias
  • Headband: Target
  • Glasses: Converse
  • Shoes: Tory Burch

Check out the shirt detail:

Now time to go play some games.

Need New Things and A Possibly Ludicrous Goal

8 Jan

Although I am all about saving in 2012 I do need some new things, specifically wardrobe things.¬†I desperately need a new pair of boots. My current pair is 4 years old and is starting to look worn, but not in a cutesy vintage way. The look is definitely more in the falling apart category. There’s a ton of cute boots out there, but I have one major complaint; the calf part¬†is almost always too big (except for the priciest designer boots). My calves are smaller than average and most ‘fitted’ leather¬†boots end up looking like rain boots. This is not the look I’m going for.

Anyways, the boot quest continues.

I also want to find some more cute silky type tops. I have a few from Banana Republic that I’m wearing all the time now. It’s such an easy way to dress up jeans and is just as comfy as a T-shirt.

Oh and other news? I signed up to do a weight loss thing at work (for prizes of course). I gained a¬†few lbs over the holidays so it would be nice to have something tangible to work towards through exercise and eating right¬†vs. my usual regiment of not working out then randomly losing weight during a stressful week. My end goal for April is a loss of¬†4 lbs. However, I’m starting to wonder, if I work out a ton¬†will the muscle weight¬†counter this out? Perhaps I’m aiming too high, but¬†doing anything less felt kinda lame (that’s right folks my big goal is 1 lb!!! *eye rolls from all*). Anyone who meets their goal gets a¬†pretty generously sized¬†gift card and of course other freebies.¬†First weigh in is tomorrow and I’m also¬†doing a breakfast buffet, how¬†convenient. Maybe I’ll wear¬†some extra jewelry or wool clothing too¬†ūüėČ Game on!

2011 = A good year!

16 Dec

Well, it’s been quite awhile since my last post. I’ve been busy with my new job and Christmas shopping, card writing, and cookie baking. As the year is nearing the end, I’ve had a lot to be thankful for in 2011:

Amazing things that happened in 2011:

  • 1 year wedding anniversary
  • Great new¬†job
  • Finally using SQL
  • Read a ton of books, some of my favorites: Hunger Games, Shanghai Girls, Room, The Psychopath Test
  • Actually cooked a few decent homemade meals
  • Have found time to play video games again (currently trying to unlock everything in Tekken 6)
  • Finally did Seattle Restaurant Week, eating at not one but two places
  • Visited multiple places: Honolulu, Las Vegas, Phoenix, and Toronto
  • Finally, I won some prizes including this beauty:

Week 2 of No Jeans at Work!

29 Nov

So I finally took a picture of one of my work outfits. I’ve finally broken out of my jeans at work mode, hooray!

Having warm fuzzy tights has really revolutionized my winter¬†wardrobe. I actually look forward to wearing dresses again. Slacks (at least the ones I own) are SO uncomfortable so I’m sticking with dresses.

Also, random fact:¬†the cardigan I’m wearing was on an episode of this season’s¬†Parks and Rec¬†as worn by Tammy II. Banana Republic, also worn by celebrities, who knew?

Dress: Ruby Rox (Nordstrom Rack),¬†I ‚̧¬†polka dots.

First Day on the New Job

21 Nov

My first day felt great! The office is very cool; lots of games, healthy food options, mini gym, and neat stuff to look at in general. Did I mention there are also Razor scooters to ride around on? More good exercise right there!

There’s a lot to learn which is always exciting. I can’t wait to master all the new skills needed.

And…. so far I am keeping my promise of wearing cute outfits ūüėČ Today I wore an H&M polka dot blouse, black slacks, and shiny red Target heels. Hopefully tomorrow I will remember to take a picture.

Must…Dress…Better…

16 Nov

I can’t believe I start my new¬†job in 4 days. One thing I really want to do which I haven’t successfully been able to do in my current job is really step up my day to day wardrobe.

When I started my last job this is how things went:

Week 1: Cute silk tops, nice work pants, skirts, heels! (looking very classy and business-like)

Week 2: Nice cotton collared shirts, dark wash jeans, ballet flats. (OK, business casual but still put together)

Week 3: I have convinced myself that Puma velcro shoes totally qualify as business casual.

The biggest influence on the steep degradation in my¬†wardrobe choices is really just working in the tech industry. Casual clothing is the norm and it’s such a hard habit to break! I’m always wondering how the people who do truly¬†dress up every day do it. Don’t they like sleeping in??

There’s a girl on my bus who is always very well¬†dressed, rocking trendy¬†clothes, heels, and hair that looks magazine perfect. For awhile I’ve been very curious¬†about where she works, secretly hoping she’s in the tech industry too.¬†Today I actually found out where she works and I shouldn’t be surprised….. Nordstrom, the one place where having a good outfit¬†is not an option, it’s a requirement.¬†I admit I was a bit¬†let down and should have seen this coming. I don’t think I could get away with wearing a flower headband to work as much as I would like to :/

It will be a challenge, but I am really going to try to dress up every day for my new job to hopefully establish myself as that professional yet fashionably dressed girl.
